Yes, without doubt, we need an application WITH GUI (like the eGalax solution) 
to calibrate all touchscreens covered by evdev driver.
I see a lot of people that made a little app for doing this, but none of them 
are in the ubuntu repositories.

In this last link you can notice a gui app to setup a touchscreen, not
only calibration tool, also precision, swap axes, timeouts.. why this
app isn't in actual ubuntu releases (and repositories)?
