Per Alberto's request, on Monday I installed 195.36.24-0ubuntu1 on Lucid. I have not observed issues since the driver upgrade during the past 2-3 days. . I can also confirm the Nvidia checkerboard bug plaguing Xvideo appears to have been fixed, as noted by nvidia's change log.
