Public bug reported: I cannot enable Visual Effects on my system, even though nvidia-current is selected in jockey and Xorg.0.log shows "NVIDIA" driver in use.
Steps to reproduce: 1) Select nvidia-current in jockey. 2) Open System -> Preferences -> Appearance 3) On Visual Effects tab, try to select Normal or Extra (as opposed to "None"). 4) Progress bar will display, after which screen will blink and you get a dialog box saying, "Desktop effects could not be enabled" ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri May 28 14:37:21 2010 DkmsStatus: virtualbox-ose, 3.1.6, 2.6.32-22-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox-ose, 3.1.6, 2.6.31-21-generic, x86_64: built nvidia-current, 195.36.15, 2.6.32-22-generic, x86_64: installed ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic root=UUID=cb832714-a26f-4f20-a85f-de2b92164bcb ro splash ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nvidia-graphics-drivers dmi.bios.date: 02/18/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: Award Software International, Inc. dmi.bios.version: FGa dmi.board.name: M57SLI-S4 dmi.board.vendor: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. dmi.board.version: x.x dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAwardSoftwareInternational,Inc.:bvrFGa:bd02/18/2008:svn:pn:pvr:rvnGigabyteTechnologyCo.,Ltd.:rnM57SLI-S4:rvrx.x:cvn:ct3:cvr: system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: x86_64 kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- cannot enable visual effects with nvidia-common https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586949 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
