Another angle to test is to check whether the DSDT tables of your laptop are OK.
That is,
1. first check if there are any firmware updates for the BIOS of your laptop. 
If so, please apply them.
2. check if the problem is fixed
3. If not, follow the instructions at 
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1036051
to extract the DSDT tables (from BIOS) and try to see if there are any errors 
when compiling the file.
Don't apply changes as it is quite a technical task; just get a feel of how 
good the DSDT tables are.
