the problem is partially resolved: i used in xorg.conf a vesa driver. since i have installed workaround b from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes. now rotation and external monitor works, as recommended for the 855 chipset. the remaining problem is that the external monitor is very unstable.
