Just checked again on my Aspire 5100 (same machine referenced in
comments above) a fully updated Lucid x86.  Machine booted and ran
cleanly, but after resume from suspend-to-ram the screen flickered very
badly, to the point that it was hard to reboot it using the dialog.

I've come back to this bug because Jaunty, which suspends and resumes
perfectly after the tweak described in one of my earlier posts above,
just reached end-of-life.  What to do, what to do...?
