I can confirm this on an upgrade of Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04 (it was originally a Kubuntu 10.04 installation, but I added the Ubuntu Desktop also). As far as I know, KMS is still running (as I'm not sure how to disable it), and I have essentially the same dmesg output as the submitter.
My lspci reveals 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RC410 [Radeon Xpress 200M] for my Video Card. Also, I keep getting this error in my dmesg (and the Display settings fail to recognize my Acer P241W monitor): [ 57.679894] [drm:radeon_vga_detect] *ERROR* VGA-1: probed a monitor but no|in valid EDID Patrick. -- regular system freezes with KMS on rc410 ati video chip https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
