I just installed 10.10 (64-bit) on my X201 3249-39C and experienced this black screen dead. My BIOS just updated to 1.22, and the kernerl was 2.6.35-22-generic.
I have to specify i915.modeset=0 to login into tty1. But no graphic appears since xserver error is somethin about: (EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory (EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected. (II) UnloadModule: "intel" (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
