I have the exact problems of the original poster. I install the latest driver for my 8400 gs card, reboot. And then you get the purple screen but instead of Ubuntu, it says 10.10. After that, screen stays purple. Funny thing is, this also happens to me when I use another operating system like Windows Vista. Is it the card then?
