A possible workaround for those who:
- Use a laptop (I guess)
- Rarely do a full boot
- Are still willing to wait for a while for the bug to be fixed

I have my laptop set to suspend on lid close, so after the machine has
stopped booting (no more disk activity), I suspend and resume. This
restores the screen for me with 260 driver.
