** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
-
- Since this occurs on my parents' laptop, I cannot run commands from
- here. I'll try to do that later.
-
- This happens on a vostro 1000 with ati radeon xpress 200M integrated
- graphics. I removed proprietary fglrx driver following instruction on
- Ubuntu community pages. Doing this, made bug #498586 dissappear, but
- another one appear.
-
- 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using
- Ubuntu 10.10 86_64
-
- 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.
- most recent
-
- 3) What you expected to happen
- normal boot
-
- 4) What happened instead
- when the system starts, a blinking cursor appears after which the login
screen should appear. Instead, vertical color pixel lines appear all over the
screen. This also happens while changing user in a running system.
-
- 5) Temporary 'workaround'
- Closing the lid of the laptop and re-opening it makes the lines dissappear
and login screen shows up. This doesn't work when changing user in a running
system, forced shut-down and reboot is neccessary.
+ this bug was continued as Bug #680542. I don't know how to delete...
