New question #77136 on totem in ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+question/77136
using ubuntu9.04 on an asus intel dual core motherboard with integrated sound.
Totem never produces sound even for ogg or wav files. While all other
applications (vlc, gxine, mplayer, audacity etc) produce sound well.
Running totem from the command line produced this error
ku...@desktop:~$ totem 11.ogg
(totem:12812): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_pad_set_caps: assertion `caps == NULL
|| gst_caps_is_fixed (caps)' failed
