I will take a stab that you are using Ubuntu. If so,
On your tool bar select, System > Preferences > Power Management.
Within that menu you will see 3 tabs, On AC Power, On Battery Power and
General. The first 2 will contain a drop down menu called "When laptop
lid is closed: "
This will show you the options you have for when the lid it closed.
