Mark Rijckenberg proposed the following answer:
You received the MD5 checksum errors because you saved several versions
of the file
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-
driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run
You have the file
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-
driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run
and the file
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-
driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run.1
and the file
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-
driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run.2
and the file
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-
driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run.3
in your home directory, if I am correct.
The previous ati-driver downloads were probably interrupted and not
fully downloaded.
Try running the following commands in your home directory:
sudo mv ati-driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run.3 ati-driver-
installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run
sudo chmod 777 ati-driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run
sudo sh ati-driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run
