Rodney is still having a problem:
No, Larry Jordan, I did not have any disc in the burner. I am a rank novice on
Linux and was not aware that a disk had to be in the drive to see if it showed
up under Places-->Computer, I put a disk in (the ISO for one of the Ubuntu
distributions) and reran /etc/fstab and /usr....... and got the same results as
before. Here they are along with the output from sudo lshw | grep dvd

Maybe my problem is only in my mind as since the burner did not show up under
Computer, I did not try to write anything. As I said, I'm a novice when it
comes to Linux. Sorry to be such a dummy here and I thank you for your
