Hi,
As far as I know, there is an important detail you forgot to mention:
what about the "format" box? This is probably not the recent version of
the installer, but as far as I know it's still the same:
http://www.basicconfig.com/files/content/manual_partition_ubuntu07.preview.png
. If you tick the "format" box, then the partition will be formatted. If
you don't, it's supposed to stay the same, and its content will be used
by the new system.
