actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
use the update manager
sudo update-manager -d
Linux mint may be different as it is not ubuntu, it is only ubuntu based
so the differences may affect the upgrade path, you should either:
1. Install a true release of Ubuntu
or
2. Ask on the Mint forums for something more precies.
