Question #78639 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78639
Status: Answered => Solved
Ewald confirmed that the question is solved:
It was not a projector. Both external monitors were LCDs connected via
the VGA port. Now, the VGA port on a XPS M1530 is right next to the
power port so they interfere. I'm going to try a HDMI connector seeing
that the HDMI port is a bit further away from the power plug.
I have used my M1530 on projectors before. I usually (some projectors
have no trouble) have to switch off Compiz otherwise the whole system
freezes for about a minute when an effect is triggered. I do the Fn-F8
thing and the display comes on on the projector. This has worked every
time for me thus far. I don't know the models of the projectors. I've
used a projector that supports widescreen format too and that worked
well (with Compiz switched off)
