Question #78899 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78899

Larry Jordan proposed the following answer:
There are applications in Linux (including Ubuntu) that will allow SOME
windows based programs to run. I'm not familiar with kurzweil, so can't say
myself. There are emulators for dos (dosbox is nice), programs like Wine
(which will run a lot of windows applications) and even things like qemu that
emulate a whole PC within Linux - idea being you could run Windows itself under
Linux and anything that runs on it.
Not all programs work, but there's a lot of chance to hope.
