I found a report in gnome bugzilla for this issue:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=739271

Title:
  alternative status menu crashes gnome-shell

Status in GNOME Shell Extensions:
  New

Bug description:
  Yesterday I installed gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu,
and today gnome-shell failed to run. Dropping into a virtual console
and running it allowed me to see the following output:

  $ DISPLAY=:0 gnome-shell
JS ERROR: !!! WARNING: 'assignment to undeclared variable
workViewInjections'
      JS ERROR: !!! WARNING: file

  Uninstalling the package gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu made
gnome-shell start again. The only other extension I have installed is
gnome-shell-extensions-native-window-placement.

  gnome-shell version: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1
  gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu version:
3.2.0-1~lffl~oneiric~ppa
  ubuntu oneiric
