there is gnome network manager, which gives status (and comes with
normal buntu)... this can be added to ubuntustudio though if needed,
also, ubuntustudio pacakges can be added to normal buntu if a more
normal desktop setup is preferred... *not* including the network manager
with ubuntustudio is actually considered a feature since using it can
cause xruns... however, this is a constant point of confusion and comes
up often in the IRC... i'll see about getting this marked 'wishlist' and
bring it up next meeting... anyone know if wicd is a viable option?

Title:
STUDIO could do with an Ethernet OK ICON and the System should check
  "Ethernet OK", more often.

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  New

Bug description:
As per the title, STUDIO seems oblivious to Ethernet/Network going down or
being
  unplugged - - -

  With the Ethernet/Network RJ-45 unplugged :

  1) The Updater will claim to have checked successfully for updates.

  2) Firefox will wait until timeout, with out advising that there is no Network
  connection.

Suggest an ICON showing Network status. Then the system can refer
tot this ICON module in its activities and be more clever about
  interpreting the outside world.

Maybe this is a Ubuntu thing ??

  Thanks - Ken
