Now that OWS-3 is clearing away I have some time to think. So far nobody
has given me any feed back on technology they would like to brought over
... I am interested in context documents (but I admit being the only
client to support an almost standard would be pretty lonely).
When we started uDig there were no clear winners for a printing
infrastructure. There was Jasper reports (it used a swing interface),
and a new project starting up called BRIT. Both were to risky to
consider at the time.
What we did do was creating a basic layout user interface using the
Eclipse Graphical Editing framework. And focused on making the rendering
system general enough to apply to both page and paper (a difficult
problem in and of itself).
Time has now passed (a year in fact), and Jasper has an SWT interface:

And BRIT is no longer vapourware:

I wish I could tell you that one was better then the other, or even that
they are suitable to the task at hand. Both are very focused on tabular
data etc...
Does anyone have an interest in this problem, or experience with the
above frameworks?
Jody
