Nope, you can do it from windows, just need to install perl for windows.

I am going to set it up from scratch on my shiney new machine to make
sure i catch everything :).
Woot! You got your machine - how fast is a maven build? And thanks for
this, I cannot seriously do uDig work in a low bandwidth environment
until I can turn over my own SDK releases.
