I don't know what "bars" you are referring to.

Well in the "what M$ does is always 'normal'" category.

Viso lets you click once for the top one, and keep on clicking to cycle through. This is espeically important for "grouped" objects, and I imagine this is how MultLineString and MultiPolygon may wish to be handled? You do have the option of reversing the "order" in preferences.

So my prefered technique would be:
1. Click on the multipolygon and get the polygon under the pointer
2. Click again and get the entire multipolygon.
3. Click again and get the polygon under
4. Click again and get the multipolygon under.

Aside: even in uDig M3 I am having trouble with my "bars" from the default OSG'05 postgis dataset. The zoom to layer finds one bar, and the info tool gets back all of them.
