Hi Gary I am going through your course materials and thought I should
share the issues with the devel list.
Issue#1 You can only add one view at a time.
A1: I think you can hold down control and select several views - let me
confirm. Yes that works (you need to choose "other" and then select
several from the list of views.
Click on [Windows] on Menu Bar
Click on [Show Views]
Click on [Other]
Hold down [Control] and select several views
Press [OK]
A2: Several views at once is usually a perspective change, we have not
allowed user defined perspectives in uDig yet but such could be done.
Issue#2 there is no way to store user defined Coordinate system
BUG1: That would be a bug (the CRS Dialog should open up to the custom
tab if a custom CRS has been defined)
A2: The custom coordinate system for a Map should be saved between sessions
BUG2: Saving a custom coordinate system as a shape or prj file is not
yet supported
Issue#3 There is no apparent Scalability in this software
A1: not sure what you mean?
A2: you can add two shapefiles at different levels of details and change
the style min/max scale to control which is rendered at a given scale
A3: yes it would be nice to group several shapefiles together like this
A4: it would be even better to do this in a cache so the user does not
need to worry about it
Issues#4: you will find that the symbology for points is very limited in
the windows version
A1: It is a SLD renderer, by going to the advanced tab you can do such
things as use PNG files to represent your points. If you think such an
example will help I can provide one.
