Thanks... Go for it guys...

Oliver and I have just updated the programmers guide documentation on creating an RCP application. This documentation was out of date and did not include the information about setting up the class loader for JAI (via a change to the manifest file).

I would ask that anyone else asking questions around here keep bugging us to improve the documentation as we go.

Based on questions over the last couple months (thanks everyone) I think we need the following tutorials: - creating a plugin - done! Covers creating a plugin, an extension, and a tools, use of model and context, CRS transformations and measurements - creating your own RCP application - covers plug-ins, features, product, application, workbench advisor, perspective - creating an operation, covers context menu, featuresource, feature dialog - creating a feature view, creating a view, editing infrastructure, featuretype

I think armed with these tutorials we could get people started off a bit better.

Adrian wrote a nice overview of the uDig architecture (by way of figuring out what is where when), I would like to cover a lot of the same ground via a series of tutorials. Initially we have taken a uDig specific approach to the materials (since the Eclipse side is taken care of in online help already), given that uDig is serving as an introduction to RCP development for many of us the RCP tutorial would not be out of line.

I do have a questions about "tone", I can offer a lot of explanation (similar to what Adiran has done) in the middle of a tutorial but I am worried people will get stuck thinking about what I am saying, rather then watching the example work. I would also like to sound "friendly" which is hard to do if I break out Architecture trade-offs and justifications. There is a middle ground where I mention the patterns used, and hope I don't confuse anyone. Any feedback would be good, I can even try one in each style and see which one generates email.

Refractions does offer a training course, which everyone is of course encouraged to take ;-) The training course covers a lot of ground, background, and motivation and of course comes with my recommendation. The training materials can be made available to those of an academic background, so please ask if this applies to you. I would like to extend my thanks to Andrea who recently updated our training materials on printing after an academic review.

I should also mention it is a deal for the amount of information that can be conveyed in a week, please visit the support page if you want more details.
