Hi all,
Its been brought to my attention that while the list has been active
answering questions very little has been said about what is currently
happening and what remains to be done before uDig 1.1 can be released.
Currently our friend Myron is working on getting the Table view
(currently called the Selection View) to work properly.
Cory is continuing to work on the Style Dialog, saving of temporary
layers and has recently started helping me with the editing tools.
Richard is doing bug fixes on WMS, printing and is taking over the
OSSIM plugin.
Finally, I am working on Editing tools and doing numerous framework
fixes, requests etc... as the community demands them.
As it stands the edit tools are getting pretty close for an alpha
release, there are a few framework issues that need to be sorted out,
for example what is selected in the MapEditor needs to be documented
so that extenders writing drag and drop code and operations can know
when something will be selected in the editor.
The table view still needs a lot of work as it is constantly the
center of event storms and hits the disk far too often. (Myron you
should talk to jody about how to make fixes).
Ossim works on linux but binaries need to be built for windows and
macintosh for distribution with the application. There are also a
number of tweaks that can be made to improve its performance.
Currently the uDig use of OSSIM is extremely naive and will can be
greatly improved.
There are also some fixes to the Shapefile support that needs to take
place. The spatial index is currently loaded into memory so for
certain cases, roads for example, attempting to display the roads
will cause an out of memory error.
So for release we basically need to hit all these issues. The
OSSIM is required because geotools coverage isn't reliable enough at
the moment. For this release we want things to be really quite solid
before we put it out the door.
Questions and comments are welcome.
Jesse
