I've tested windows and Macintosh with trunk and I have verified that
the indexes are not generated when the preferences are set. So I
suggest waiting for RC2 (on wednesday) and try that.

I think this will stop the creation of the FIX and QIX files that
are causing errors when I add programmatically features to the
shape files: the new features (points) are no visible. When I
delete the FIX and QIX files I can see the new points.
