The eclipse on-line guide has a good section on automated builds. Search for "automated build". Or advanced PDE Build topics.

I will warn you that the PDEBuild stuff from eclipse is a bit of a mess, and hard to set up. There was a useful book called "building commercial quality plugins" that had a section on this, but now it is mostly outdated.

How do you go about creating an automated build for an RCP application? I assume you guys use CruiseControl or something similair? How do you manage dependecies given the Eclipse plugin architecture manages dependencies differently that standard Java applications? Do you use Ant? If so, how? Do you maintain two dependency structures?

We have cruisecontrol running an ant script (http:// svn.geotools.org/udig/trunk/scripts/run.xml). The ant script uses eclipse itself to process the dependencies in the features/plugins and kick out a build.

Our scripts are here:
http://svn.geotools.org/udig/trunk/scripts/

Eclipse has some documentation here:
http://www.eclipse.org/articles/Article-PDE-Automation/ automation.html

Cory.
