Jody, is there some link where to catch up the ideas for geotools rendering improvements?
Well there are a couple ideas:
- back port uDig rendering system (making sure EMF is not used for events)
- enabled Martin and friends to work on Renderer's based on some ISO standard
- slurp up any thing we learn as a "revision" to GO-1
- the uDig rendering system is actually very similar to one of the ISO specs
- try out a couple back ends to the rendering system: AWT, SWT and OpenGL

In short rendering work is something of a research topic, and rather then start from nothing back porting the uDig rendering system will get everyone working more quickly. Gotta so that there is no advantage for uDig short term and I have to show that GeoTools can improve on quality for any involvement to be credible.

PS. To have this conversation in useful terms we need to hunt down whoever charges for ISO specs
and explain that they are not a publishing house.

You have nicely summarized my plan.
Can you sync up with Jody Garnett who has a plan to revamp the geotools
rendering system? It would be wonderful if these two efforts were done
in concert.

A planning doc would also be wonderful. Other parts of the lib have
standards for us to examine but not the rendering stack.

(What's a good name? we've already used RenderManager).
RenderOrchestrator ?
