I am using uDig 1.1 RC5 on WIN XP SP2.
I am trying to work with a SHAPE file of the Manitoba National Road
Network. This has about 96000 lines. I can display the lines great,
and can edit the linework nicely too. And I can use the i tool to
display the attributes for a line. I can edit the data in a field
and it seems to take it but when I move to another line and back it
doesn't save the changes and I even tried using the commit before
moving away. Are we supposed to be able save changes to the
attributes?'
The info view is not really designed for editing it has the
capability as a side affect of how it was implemented but we have to
either disable it (since it doesn't work in all cases right now) or
do some work so that it will work. Select features with the edit
tool and use the Default Feature Edit view instead.
One other thing: when I try to use the Table View tab it displays
some lines and then it takes forever to go through the table,
sucking up all of the CPU power in my computer and never getting
through the table, is there something that I am doing wrong? Can
this dataset be too big for this version of uDig?
I am currently doing lots of work on the Table View. In RC5 it could
only do small data sets efficiently, around 300-500 features. I am
now testing with features sets of many hundred thousand. I have
also added editing to the table view and sorting. We will make a
release towards the end of next week.
I am getting great results from displaying data with uDig,
displaying large cadastral datasets along with WMS servers for
vector data and WMS servers for imagery now I am trying to move
onto editing with it.
Great! We aim to please :)
Thanks for the email,
Jesse
