Hi Jesse:
thanks for that pointer, it fixed my problem and I was
able to display GeoTIFF files with the Mantario Trail SHAPE file
superimposed upon them. I currently have 6 6Mb GeoTIFF files shown.

I tried translating one of our MrSID images into GeoTIFF to display much
more of the trail, but the GeoTIFF ended up being 600Mb and uDig
couldn't seem to handle that. It would be a lot better if uDig supported
MrSID files which we release a lot of our imagery on the MLI here in
Manitoba in. Or else if you can't support MrSID because of proprietary
issues conflicting with the LGPL license then at least if you supported
JPEG2000 would be an option. I couldn't translate this file into ECW
because of a GDAL 500k ECW SDK issue and anyway uDig doesn't support
ECW.

   Bob

This is a frusterating problem that I have not been able to solve. It
seems that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I found a hack
that works though. in the short cut add:

-vmargs -Dosgi.parentClassloader=ext

that worked for me. I will update the install script.
