If possible can we keep the page for documentation about stuff we know?
And use the bug tracker to answer the other questions. My concern is this
page may not be touched again before the next release.

Thanks Jody,
I added some nice questions for which I do not have a good answer. They
represent some problems I had on Linux. Maybe someone has an answer for
them.

Ciao

Here is the page started:

For the next release it will show up in online help Tasks > Running uDig

Hi Peter,
I will start a page, but since this is for the whole community I would
like to ask Jody or someone else to point me to thr ight place to start
on it. I will then take over the page and add the first issues.

excuse me, but I don't understand very well and I'm interested since I
run on Linux and Udig freezes from time to time.
I assumed that it is because of the disabling of advanced graphics at
the begin.

I would be very willing to create a wiki page with all the possible
linux related issues and how to solve them, if we are able to collect
the different problem.

Solution to two uDig 1.1-RC10a installs on Debian Etch where one would
not display the info view:

Install Mozilla 1.7.12 *for GTK2 and Xft* from Mozilla's list of
releases (http://www.mozilla.org/releases/).

Sorry to disturb the list -- must beat head longer before posting dumb
questions.

As a caution to others, though, the default "Iceape" package on Debian
stable -- the re-branded Mozilla browser -- does not appear to work
for
the info viewer (though it works fine with the help). The earlier
mozilla-browser packages did (before Etch went stable).
Andrea,

It would be a great service for you to start such a page. Please let us
know its address!

Regarding the info window, I have the same problem; By installing
seamonkey I can get help, but I don't ever get the info window.

It seems to me that if uDig needs to invoke an external browser,
then we will need to know how to build this browser, it's not a
good idea to require that people run an out-of-date web browser.
So perhaps what we need to write on the wiki page is the configure
options to specify when building the browser from source. Firefox would
be the best choice if possible because it is most actively
supported; mozilla itself has essentially stopped, continuing on
as SeaMonkey.
