Hi Matt - the best advice is to choose something you would enjoy :-)

If you some ideas to start out with we recently did up an ideas page for the google summer of code students. But without knowing you and your interests better I would not be able to choose.

Why don't you join us for our uDig IRC meeting tomorrow and we can chat :-)

Given that you only have a month here are some quick ideas:
- hook up the eclipse "Overview" view - so it shows the world as an image; and draws a box showing where the current display is focused - make an "Export to PNG" export wizard that basically "prints" the current screen out to a PNG file

All the best,
Jody
Hello Jody!

My name is Matthew Westfall and I am a student at the University of Mary Washington. Over the past month I have been familiarizing myself with uDig and Eclipse. In the upcoming month, my goal is to actually add something to the uDig program, my own little plug-in. Being that I'm a novice and that I have a month for this, perhaps you could suggest something for me or help me along? This is a Summer Research Project through UMW and the Comp Sci Dept. Looking forward to anything you have to offer -

Matt
