generic error in feature attribute creation

There is a problem creating a new feature layer. If you add an Attribute an
rename it from New Attribute0 to an existing attribute name the error message
dialog says: "An error has occurred. See the error log for more details.".
This is a generic error message, it would be good to have a message like "This
attribute name already exists, please choose another one" or something similar.
See the error log in this case is pretty misleading.
