Can I make sure you are using "trunk", it is not even worth thinking
about raster support on the 1.1 branch.
Once you are on trunk, we should be able to get some good error message
and package them up for the geotools developers.

Well, what can I say. I have three grids for testing here, it works with one
of them - sometimes. The problem seems to be in
net.refractions.udig.catalog.rasterings.AbstractRasterGeoResource.findResource().
"Overriding" it in net.crischan.udig.arcgrid.ArcGridGeoResourceInfo it shows
an "unexpected EOF" or an "Expected word token" in the Throwable. In any
case, this results in an undefined Envelope.
I have a feeling that ArcGrids aren't well supported in Geotools/GeoApi...
Everybody is welcome to test ist (see attachment) and give a second opinion.
