Just a note, there is already the possibility to do what you are planning to
do for the second issue in the
http://udig-news.blogspot.com/2009/01/axios-udig-extensions-12-m1-under.html
I usually do the transformation between polygons and line just creating a
new line layer and copy and paste the polygons in this new layer.
