Welcome to the uDig project list.

uDig has traditionally taken part in Google Summer of code - this year
I understand there are new organisers on the OSGeo Foundation side of
things and we have not signed up.

So let us first check with the udig-devel list here if any developers
would like to participate as a mentor :-)

If we do have have some volunteers they will need to contact the OSGeo
Foundation SOC email list and add uDig into the mix, review student
submissions of ideas (sometimes we help out with our own ideas page to
get people thinking), and so on ...

It speaks well for you Mohit that you have contacted the udig-devel
list; in the past we have had students fail out of the process half
way through due to treating it more like an assignment and less like
work experience. If you take part in the SoC project it our task as a
community to teach you how communities work and communicate - it is
not enough to have a technical solution after all; that solution needs
to be integrated and understood by your fellow "co-workers" :-)

Cheers,
Jody

Thanks a lot Jody,
I understand the commitments I have to make for applying to GSOC. I have not worked in this kind of community development earlier, that is why i want to apply for SOC. I am also interested in how to get the correct idea in limited time, as i am new to developing uDig(or some other Open-Source Software).
