Hi Jody, > Google summer of code is once again happening this year - I would like to > know if anyone is interested in participating as a mentor?
I am interested as every year, but I do not have much of time. I could be a 1/2 mentor in uDig stuff and a full mentor if the development is related to Spatial Toolbox and JGrasstools (since I am quite active on those). > We have had a couple of interested students; but that is only 1/2 of the > challenge. Yes, I am also in contact with one student, I am waiting for him to reveal himself in the mailinglist. :) > I am once again willing to act as a backup mentor; and run through the > training materials "online" via Skype for students (and mentors?) who are > starting up. That is btw the most important part, so thanks! > Aside: Over on the OSGeo board email list they just concluded that mentors > could keep the $500 for their involvement (indeed they have just been > fortunate that mentors have chosen to donate this in the past). Well, I am not sure about that one. I agree it is a burden to understand how things go with taxes and how to split with co-mentors. Well, one year I got a coupon for a t-shirt, that was good enough to me... but then they never did it again :) A couple a Osgeo t-shirts would also work.
