At the moment nothing is being done on the tilerender at my end.
Sometime last summer or fall I tried to fix it up so it would work on
the Macs. I created a patch but I don't have access to a Mac for
testing so I think it's just sitting in git somewhere.
As for documentation - I'm not sure there is must beyond what exists for
the current rendering system.
