This topic has been bounced across many mailing lists, I kind of suspect a 
"code sprint" or something with the live dvd crew is the only way to work 
through it. The number of cooks in the kitchen; and the delay as different 
people try solutions is making this one impossible to follow the discussion 
"tightly" as you put it Moovida. 

Indeed I notice the members of the live dvd have fallen out of this particular 
email thread.

Aside: in another email trail it looked like what is configured on the live dvd 
works, for every project except Geomajas which uses an old copy of GeoTools 
(and thus an old copy of ImageIO which is where the incompatibility lies).
