Science/Astronomy:

* Solving Settlement Problems: Dealing with Moon Dust

http://www.space.com/adastra/adastra_moondust_060223.html

As scientists and engineers figure out how to return astronauts to the Moon,
set up habitats, and mine lunar soil to produce anything from building
materials to rocket fuels, they are scratching their heads over what to do
about Moon dust.

* COMMENTARY: Astrobiology Budget in Peril

http://www.space.com/searchforlife/seti_astrobiology_060223.html

While it is true that the entire NASA science budget is under pressure, this
50% cut to astrobiology is much larger than the 15% across-the-board cuts
proposed for FY '07 in the other NASA research programs. Although many of us
consider astrobiology to be the primary science of the President's Vision for
Space Exploration, this is not reflected in the budget proposal.

* A Billion Stars Hiding in Milky Way

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060222_missing_stars.html

Astronomers have found that a diffuse X-ray glow in our galaxy is not generated
by hot gas but rather it's radiating from old stars that have yet to be
counted.

* Pluto Might Have Rings

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060222_pluto_moons.html

The two moons discovered around Pluto last year were likely formed from the
same giant impact that created the planet's much larger satellite, Charon,
scientists say.

* Top 10 List of Habitable Stars to Guide Search

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060221_habstars.html

The search for alien life outside our solar system has been made a little less
daunting thanks to a new list drawn up by astronomer Margaret Turnbull that
includes the known stars most likely to support habitable stellar systems.

spaceship, the Crew Exploration Vehicle.

http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/060222_techwed_spaceadventures.html

* Lockheed to Assemble CEV in Florida if Chosen by NASA

http://www.space.com/news/060222_lockheed_cev_florida.html

Lockheed Martin Corp. announced Wednesday that it would build NASA's Crew
Exploration Vehicle (CEV) in Florida if selected by the space agency as prime
contractor for the multibillion-dollar space shuttle-replacement project later
this year.

* Japan Launches New Observatory for Infrared Sky Survey

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060221_jaxa_astrof_lnch.html

from Japan's Uchinoura Space Center.

* Companies Prepare to Launch Remains into Space

http://www.space.com/news/ap_060221_space_ashes.html

his third flight. The craft also will hold the ashes of 185 others, including a
telephone technician, a nurse and a college student.
