In my experience Argyll generally generates better profiles than the vendor
software does, particular with regard to the blacks (it is significantly
slower though).
More importantly, if I recall correctly xcalib merely loads a profile's
vcgt (VideoLUT), which is only part of the correction, then you'd still
have to manually setup the ICC in each color managed application
individually. Otherwise you'd be stuck with only half a correction.
dispwin also sets the _ICC_PROFILE X11 atom, which most application can
read if the have "Use system display profile" enabled. Which makes
switching to a new updated profile much less bothersome. Keep in mind that
backlights do age, so ideally you do want to generate a new profile at
least yearly or half-yearly or something along those lines.
Please do read my articles for more details.
On a sidenote, as for printers, essentially you profile a
printer+driver+driver_settings+inks+paper combination, so if you like
different kinds of papers, you quickly end up doing many profiles there as
well.

Mobile security can be enabling, not merely restricting. Employees who
bring their own devices (BYOD) to work are irked by the imposition of MDM
restrictions. Mobile Device Manager Plus allows you to control only the
apps on BYO-devices by containerizing them, leaving personal data untouched!
