We want to implement IDS/Firewall as mini project using SunFire T1000 server
having 8 cores with Solaris10 OS and do a performance study. We would like to
assign each packet to a thread of the core and observe the performance of the
server.

We have already worked on using libpcap() for capturing the packets and
analyzing the packet information.

We are now interested in using Vertical Perimeter concept of Solaris 10 for the
above requirement that is detailed as mentioned:
i)?????Capturing the packets in promiscuous mode
ii)? ? Implementing 5-tuple packet classification
iii)???Filling up the queues based on the above classification
?
We have gone through the book on Solaris Internals ? Solaris 10 and Opensolaris
Kernel Architecture by Richard Dougall and Jim Mauro.
?
We would like to get some tips from you to make a beginning in terms of the
functions we need to use and the general procedure of handling the packets
using the concepts of Vertical Perimeter.
?
Thanks in advance.

?
