I have read about software features being backported back to Solaris 10/11.

That's what I wanted to hear. :-)

That's quite differing from Linux where some server hardware manufacturers only 
drivers for Enterprise Linux (SLES, RHEL) - which gets problematic, if their 
hardwaere needs binary drivers which only work with - Enterprise Editions.
