Yes Daniel, It is very easy to install a Linux branded zone. I have a CentOS zone running in my laptop and I'm able to run linux applications unmodified, like Skype or Google Earth, or just have access to a Linux with all the man pages and commands.
I know other people in this list have installed other flavors of Linux, but I'm not an specialist and I just followed the example to have a Linux running inside OpenSolaris. To have access to the cdrom from inside a zone, you can either share it through NFS as you insert it, or manually add a loopback file system to add it inside the zone.
