Hi Daniel, It is very difficult to help you without having some more information about the status of your system.
I can tell you I've been using VirtualBox on OpenSolaris for a long time now without any major issue so far. Your problem with the memory may be caused by a lack of physical RAM. Sometimes applications ask for non-swappable memory (all the shared-memory is always allocated in the physical memory). If you are using ZFS, it will block some memory. On my laptop, I have reduced the minimum amount of memory assigned to the ZFS ARC to 128MB, instead of the default of 512MB for my configuration. To know how the memory is used, you can start with: # *echo "::memstat" | mdb -k* > ::memstat Page Summary Pages MB %Tot ------------ ---------------- ---------------- ---- Kernel 96527 754 19% ZFS File Data 41889 327 8% Anon 133019 1039 26% Exec and libs 503 3 0% Page cache 4631 36 1% Free (cachelist) 11769 91 2% Free (freelist) 225764 1763 44% Total 514102 4016 Physical 511179 3993 # *freemem -l* Free Memory Statistics (mafalda) ---------------------- Physical Memory: 4016 MB Kernel Memory: 852 MB Lots Free: 62 MB Desired Free: 31 MB Min Free: 15 MB Free RAM Memory: 1871 MB ZFS ARC size: 442 MB ZFS ARC max: 1024 MB ZFS ARC min: 128 MB Free memory available for applications: 2185 MB To see the list of process sorted by memory usage, you can launch a "prstat -s rss". Hope this helps, Javi On Fri, Mar 26, 2010 at 9:05 PM, Daniel Bossert <db at dabo.ch> wrote: > Hello > > So, I did a new try with opensolaris.
