I suspect that journalists who make out such "FUD" out of thin air have never actually worked as IT practitioners in a "real world"... if they would they would know, that Solaris is THE platform of choice for running any of the Oracle stuff in any serious enterprise infrastructure...
they probably don't even realize that "OpenSolaris" is not just some kidn of yet another "opens-source OS" but really more like a publicly exposed "forward R&D" branch of "real" SOLARIS... once source was opened it is really impractical to "close it back".. therefor OpenSolaris is unlikely to be killed if "proper" SOLARIS is still around... And killing the "proper" SOLARIS would be really-really stupid if they do that... Not to say that this cannot happen (as stupid_things can always happen given enough concentration of stupidity in a given place ;), but just to say that there is really NO a _rational_ reason for that... the fact that Oracle supports and uses Linux is not such reason... it's a "Non sequitur"... cheers, O.K. -------------------------------------------------------- http://www.linkedin.com/in/kiorsak On Tue, Jul 14, 2009 at 11:23 AM, Sengor <sengork at gmail.com> wrote: > > http://www.freshnews.org/article/slashdot/mass-speculation-suggests-oracle-may-kill-opensolaris > > -- > sengork > > _______________________________________________ > ug-msosug mailing list > ug-msosug at opensolaris.org > http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/ug-msosug > > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
