Given there should probably be at some some testing effort, a VM is 
probably a reasonable answer. Otherwise, the format for the SysV package 
tools is quite well known and not at all mystical - should be easier to 
put together a package creation tool very easily. I mean, he's a 
developer, right - he could even publish his efforts as open source!

Also, without trying to appear too grouchy - blame it on the headcold - 
the ug-msosug mailinglist probably isn't the best place for these 
questions. It's not a tech support list, and you'd probably get more 
answers (potentially of a better quality) posting to comp.unix.solaris or 
asking on IRC or the sun-managers mailing-list - in short, there are 
better places.
