Please help a fellow MSOSUGie

I know, I know....I should be using SPARC
hardware...yada....yada....yada....but at the moment I only have x86.

I've been running Linux on an IBM Netfinity 5600 Server. Using a
ServeRAID 4H controller with a RAID 5 setup.

I finally had time to backup the data to install Solaris 10 (u4). I
confirmed a few months back that Solaris 10 will support the hardware by
using the Solaris CheckTool CD.

The ServeRAID card is supported by the "chs" driver.

I booted up the Solaris 10 CD no problems, got to the GUI, etc but
decided I'd change my RAID config to have 2 x Logical Drives, rather
than 1 big one.

I booted to the RAID config CD and made the changes. This kicked off a
full sync/init for the RAID. Once it had finished I try to boot to the
Solaris 10 CD again. **KERNEL PANIC**

This panic happens when the modules are loaded, before I even get to the
first menu screen. I found that if I add "disable-chs=true" to the
kernel line in GRUB it boots to the CD fine. (doesn't load the kernel
driver module for the raid card).

Ok, some things I have tried.

    * I can install Linux and Windows without issues.
    * I've tried an alternate ServeRAID 3H card (Same Kernel Panic).
    * I've tried a different CD and DVD drive.
    * If I factory reset the ServeRAID card (remove the config) and
      leave it unconfigured, I can boot the CD but I do get a viper_init
      RAID config error.
    * I've tried different CD's including U5 and OpenSolaris 2008.05
      (this doesn't have the "chs" driver anyway).

I read a few post online that I may need to do an individual low level
format of each drive. Can't see how this would help though.

I've booted with "-kdv" as kernel option to try and catch the panic but
I think the vital info disappears off the screen so I can't read it. Is
there a way to view details for the kernel panic and perhaps record it
so I can share it with others?

Short of buying a SPARC system or an alternate RAID card, any suggestions?

I'm really keen to get Solaris on this Server so any help will be very
much appreciated.
